Why was XSMatter Started?

Ridzuan: When I started xsmatter it was because life was crap. People were all so focused on their own individual lives that they forgot that more could be achieved collectively. Taking that to the next step, people couldn't work collectively because they had no idea what everyone else was doing! And so xsmatter was born. The idea behind it was to provide a platform for people to share ideas, opinions, stories, etc so that it gave others food for thought. Of couse I didn't want it to be a super duper serious thing because I don't want this to be one of those formal affairs. Formalities cloud the mind and clouded minds make crappy decisions. XSMatter to be fun.

So yeah...that's why I started it. The editorial part was for the 'intellectual exchange' with fun things here and there. The events portion - with the Chillout being one of the events, was started so that people could actually meet in real life. Sit back over a cup of coffee and just talk crap, or talk serious, or just talk. In fact, they could all stare at the walls if they wanted to. But hopefully, the chillouts will give people an insight into other people's lives and that understanding will become a basis for more holistic decision making and collaboration in future. I do not believe that all those conventions and forums where 'people hide behind their state flags and have their lawyers by their side' make much of a collaborative difference. It's time we act for the greater good. But we have to cultivate that trust.

Who's welcome to be part of this?

Ridzuan: Actually, anyone is. So long as they're mature and reasonable. We don't have to agree on everything but we shouldn't just point fingers and all because we feel like pointing. I do hope that ministers and the likes(regardless of party or nationality) will one day sit amongst us and talk about how the coffee sucks or how they raised GST because they lost a bet with their bosses or something. Haha. j/k-ing
